Hello friends,
As I sit down to write this month's newsletter, I'm struck by how different this autumn feels compared to years past.
Traditionally, things don't really begin humming along until our snowbird friends start arriving in force. This year, however, we've already had quite a few fully booked days, and it's happening much earlier than expected. The biggest difference seems to be the makeup of our clientele. More and more of the people I work with are year-round Puerto Vallarta residents, with vacationers sprinkled in here and there.
I absolutely love that.
It means I get to watch long-term progress unfold over months and years rather than days and weeks. It means relationships deepen, victories accumulate, and healthy habits take root. And with snowbird season now just around the corner, I'll admit... I'm pretty excited to see what the coming months bring and to reconnect with our extranjero palls.
A New Credential, Same Mission
This month I completed a new specialization with the National Academy of Sports Medicine: Senior Fitness Specialist.
What a fantastic program.
Many of the people I work with are retired or approaching retirement, and helping them maintain strength, mobility, balance, confidence, and independence has become some of the most rewarding work I do. It occurs to me that I will likely still be working with many of these same clients into their very old age, I want to be sure I am prepared to offer them the very best quality of care I possibly can when that time arrives, this credential aligns well with that goal.
The credential doesn't change who I work with. It simply gives me more tools to support challenges that become increasingly important as we age.
So if you're imagining that I've traded the gym for a rocking chair and afternoon bingo... fear not.
I can still hold my own with the younger crowd and keep up with a Chaturanga 100 sequence when necessary. 💪😝
The Weather Is Finally Cooperating
Can we all take a moment to appreciate that Puerto Vallarta has finally remembered that it's autumn?
The mornings have been delightful, and even the middle of the day is starting to feel comfortable again.
Because of the cooler weather, I'm officially opening additional 11:00 AM personal training availability.
It's not quite as refreshing as our 6:30 AM sessions, when the city is quiet and the morning air feels magical, but it's becoming a very comfortable option for those who aren't exactly eager to greet the sunrise.
If you've been considering starting a strength training program but mornings aren't your thing, the 11 AM slot might be exactly what you've been waiting for.
Looking for Your Permanent Groove?
One thing I've noticed over the years is that successful clients don't rely on motivation, motivation will always ebb and flow. Commitment is everything.
They rely on routine.
The people who make the biggest changes are rarely the most motivated. They're the most consistent. They find a time that works, commit to it, and show up week after week.
My regular clients know this well and tend to get pretty protective of their training slots. Honestly, I can't blame them.
At the moment, a handful of recurring spots are available:
• Monday & Thursday — 9:30 AM
• Tuesday & Thursday — 11:00 AM
• Tuesday & Thursday — 6:30 AM
If one of those feels like it fits your lifestyle, let's make it yours.
Self-Care Is For Coaches Too
I have officially reached an unexpected milestone in my professional life:
I now have office hours.
Not because I'm becoming fancy.
Certainly not because I suddenly enjoy policies.
But because the busier the practice becomes, the more I realize that bringing my best energy to our sessions requires something many independent professionls struggle with:
Actual time off.
The truth is that good coaching requires presence, attention, and focus. To provide those consistently, I need dedicated recharge time just like everyone else.
So for the first time ever, I've established regular communication hours.
Office & Communication Hours
Monday-Friday
6:00 AM - 2:00 PM
Saturday (Remote)
6:00 AM - 10:00 AM
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Time
Response Times
During office hours:
Typically within 1 hour
Outside office hours:
Within 1 business day
If you send a message and don't hear from me immediately, there's a good chance I'm doing exactly what I encourage all my clients to do:
Resting, recovering, and taking care of myself.
After all... self-care is for coaches too. 😊
Until next month,
-Coach Jai
